On Saturday, October 1st, Advocate Capital, Inc.’s Team Hope traded in their green shirts for pink ones and joined together for the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure. The annual event raises both funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Advocate Capital supports Komen’s mission and was proud to participate in this year’s event under a new name, “Team Shirley” as a way to honor our very own breast cancer survivor, Shirley Johnson.
Race day kicked off with hundreds of people, all gathered at Maryland Farms in Brentwood. Team Shirley was well represented in the 5K walk/run with 23 participants. In addition to our efforts at the event, we raised a total of $1,085 for the Komen Foundation! Thank you to all who donated to our team and helped us in this challenge. Your donation will not only impact the Race for the Cure, but will benefit breast cancer patients all around the world.
If you didn’t have time to donate before the race, you can still make a contribution to Advocate Capital, Inc.’s team by clicking here. You can also visit our Facebook and Google+ pages to see pictures from the event.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time where we can all celebrate breast cancer survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with the disease.
